Visibility Isn't Ego -- It's Advocacy
September 2026
Many high-performing leaders share the same quiet rule:
“If I just do great work, it should speak for itself.”
So, they keep their heads down. They deliver. They support others. They solve problems. They make things run smoothly behind the scenes and they assume the right people will notice.
Sometimes they do. Often, they don’t. Not because the work isn’t valuable, but because invisible work is easy to overlook. This is especially true for leaders who pride themselves on being low maintenance. You don’t ask for recognition. You don’t highlight your contributions. You don’t want to look self-promotional.
So, you stay focused on everyone else. Advocating for your team. Creating opportunities for others. Making sure everyone around you is seen.
But here’s the tension: When you consistently make yourself invisible, you also make it harder for others to support you. People can’t advocate for what they can’t see. They can’t resource what they don’t understand. They can’t protect capacity they don’t know is stretched.
So, you end up carrying more -- quietly. Again.
This is where the R in the M.O.R.E. Mindset — Rich Relationships & Visibility — asks us to rethink what visibility really means.
Visibility isn’t ego. It’s clarity. It’s “here’s what I’m responsible for; here’s what it takes; and here’s where I need support.” It’s making your leadership visible enough that others can show up for you. Staying silent might feel humble, but it often leads to being overlooked, overextended, and under-supported.
Healthy leaders don’t inflate their impact. They name it. Not to impress, but to align expectations with reality, so others can step in. Which brings us back to the question we keep returning to:
What Do You Deserve?
You deserve to be seen. You deserve recognition that matches your contribution. You deserve support that reflects the full weight of what you carry. You deserve visibility that invites partnership, not pressure.
This Month's Leadership Lesson
Visibility is not self-promotion. It’s self-advocacy.
CALL TO ACTION
This week, choose one moment to make your work visible. Not louder. Clearer. Share: what you’re leading; what it requires; and what support would help.
Simple. Direct. Professional.
Because sustainable leadership isn’t built on silent excellence. It’s built on shared understanding.
Next month, we’ll deepen the conversation about engagement—because empathy without boundaries can pull us right back into self-sacrifice.
